![]() Spell Inducted as an Honorary Member of Alpha Zeta Eric Spell, President of AgCareers.com, had the honor and privilege to be inducted as an honorary member of Alpha Zeta on March 18th, 2006. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the organization’s National Agriculture Leadership Conference in San Luis Obispo, California on the campus of California Polytechnic State University. “I’m very pleased to be a part of and contribute to the growth and education of this bright bunch of students as they lead our industry to the next level,” said Spell. Also inducted as Alpha Zeta honoraries were A.G. Kawamura, Secretary of Agriculture for California; Alan Krob, Alpha Zeta Executive Director; and Manuel Cunha Jr., President of Nisei Farmers League.
Alpha Zeta is a professional organization of men and women who’s educational and career objectives fall within the broadly defined field of agriculture and natural resources. Founded at The Ohio State University on November 4, 1897, it is the oldest fraternal society in agriculture. Alumni Return to Share Experiences AgCareers.com also had the opportunity to present to 30 students representing 10 different universities from across the United States. Ashley Warlick, Central US Account Manager and College Relations Coordinator for AgCareers.com did the honor and shared “Success in the First Week.” Warlick is a 2005 graduate of North Carolina State University and an active alumnus of the NC State Alpha Zeta chapter. “Being able to present to the Alpha Zeta students about making a successful transition from college to the workplace was a great opportunity as I have recently made the transition myself,” said Warlick. “As an alumnus, I knew a number of the students and I enjoyed the opportunity to share my experiences and relate to them as they take this next step into the work world.” Les Stephens, Director of Personnel Development with Wilbur Ellis, and Bonnie Fernandez with the California Wheat Commission assisted with the presentation and offered great insight for the students from an employer’s perspective. Chapters were to compile and submit their explanations on why they should receive the award. This year Alpha Zeta selected North Carolina State University to receive the travel award. Spell and Warlick were on hand to award the chapter with the prize money. “It is important that as industry representatives we help these students find ways to participate in important education and leadership training events.
