Communications Coordinator


This position will implement and maintain the communications and marketing plan by working with our marketing consultants, WLIC members and communications committee, as well as the WLIC board of directors. In addition, the position incumbent will direct the communication efforts with all stakeholders, including face to face meetings with livestock groups to present the benefits of premises registration and animal identification. This position reports to and provides support for the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium's Chief Operating Officer (COO). 

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
-Develop educational and training materials/tools to explain and promote the mission of the WLIC. 
-Coordinate communication and outreach efforts with WLIC members, United States Department of Agriculture, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and University of Wisconsin Extension. 
-Provide direction and communication/education to interested parties in regards to implementing technical solutions. 
-Further develop and maintain the WLIC website. 
-Participate in on-farm, county fair and industry implementation of animal identification projects in cooperation with livestock industry group, UW extension and third party service providers. 
-Work with the COO to obtain a full understanding of the WLIC project to ensure the organization has adequate depth of resources. Interaction and liaison with: WLIC board of directors, livestock producers, industry, state and federal government officials. 

Well qualified candidates will have an agriculture (livestock) background with a minimum of 2 years experience in the development of educational and training materials. A strong computer background that includes website maintenance, training and support of computer users is also key for this position. 

Qualification and skill required: 
-Bachelor of Science degree in the field of agriculture, communications, marketing, a related field, or equivalent professional work experience in animal agriculture, communications, or marketing. 
-Experience in the development of communication materials. 
-Experience presenting benefits of a product or service to livestock groups. 
-Experience in the handling of livestock. 
-Sales experience beneficial. 
-An understanding of production agriculture and/or animal health or food safety programs. 
-Excellent computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office, and expertise in the design and maintenance of websites. 
-Excellent written and oral communications skills. 
-Ability to work both individually and in a team environment. 
-Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask and take on new responsibilities. 
-Willingness and ability to travel in state overnight and weekends. 
-Willingness and ability to assist with hands-on farm and industry implementation of animal identification programs. 

Based out of Verona, Wisconsin, the Communications Coordinator position does not include coverage of relocation costs.
