The person in this position will be responsible for conducting fundamental economic analysis for Cargill Ag Supply Chain platform Oilseeds/Meals/Oils, and communicating findings to Merchandising/Trading teams in the local office and in worldwide trading locations. The Commodity Analyst will also advocate long or short trading positions, with risk assessment, based on the objective analysis of market data. The analyst must challenge positions inconsistent with economic facts, ensure that merchandising and marketing decisions are made with the full consideration of economic information and support GAMA (Global Agriculture Market Analysis) group in providing accurate decision making information across other business units/functions. Principal Accountabilities - Conduct fundamental analysis and forecast specific supply and demand components of US oilseeds/meals/oils supply and demand (soy emphasis), their relationship(s) to the world supply and demand situation, and support/maintain the GAMA (Global Agricultural Market Analysis) database.
- Advocate views on prospective price and crush industry margin changes based on the objective analysis of market data and challenge positions inconsistent with economic facts. Consider livestock sector dynamics and impact on meal markets, and biodiesel sector impact on vegoil markets. Work with analysts from Cargill meat and feed businesses to integrate market views on livestock sector.
- Participate in CASC(Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain) platform and individual business unit studies as needed. Contribute significantly to the Cargill long term forecast process. Make effective presentations to customers as requested by management.
- Monitor & analyze the impact of political events and government programs on oilseeds/meals/oils markets. Maintain relationship with both USDA and trade personnel.
- Liaise and support other GAMA functions (i.e. US/World crop analysis teams) to improve quality of forecasts. Support GAMA group projects.
- Track legislative developments in biodiesel space. Monitor profitability of industry to forecast likely production levels. Estimate the mix of feedstocks to be used by industry. Lead discussions of supply/demand implications with vegoil traders.

Skills: Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Ag Economics, Business, Finance or related discipline
- Must have knowledge and intense curiosity about commodity markets, disruptive events, government interventions, global affairs
- Must have strong mastery of computing and statistics with an emphasis on regression techniques
- Must be self-starter; colleagues can only help start the process; initiative to continue and innovate is up to employee
- Strong preference for candidates with experience constructing models of economic and market behavior
- Basic science knowledge and interest is helpful, including biology, nutrition, chemistry, genetics
Preferred: - Master's Degree in Economics, Business or related discipline
- Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
