SUMMARY

The Bilingual Chinese Information Analyst is responsible for developing new databases encompassing both internal research and data analysis processes, as well as research and marketing data from Chinese hybrid rice production and research sources including the National & Provincial Rice Variety Approval Program. Duties include the preparation of data for analysis and database loading, developing custom scripts databases to facilitate data processing and analysis, and assisting in deriving scientifically meaningful results from computational analyses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and modify database(es) that integrate research data across multiple sources, translating the data into English, and organizing the data to prepare documents, statistical analyses and descriptive data for use in research and marketing reports. Database(s) developed must comply with company’s ISO 9000 initiative.
  • Responsible for input and verification of data, integrity of database information and reviews source documents for accuracy of input data.
  • Investigates questionable data and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to incorporate GIS-mapping and area-specific data into database to create Asian regional data reporting functionality.
  • Translate data from Chinese (Mandarin) source materials to English for use in the database and reporting.
  • Prepare reports and papers of completed projects for presentation to management, or use in further research activities.
  • Provide expertise in field of research to other department members.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Bachelors degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Computer Science or scientific related field and minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience, or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience.

    Management Responsibilities: Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment, both within the research setting and across functions. Skills and experience appropriate for managing breeding and testing operations at the station manager level.

    Language Ability: Bilingual Chinese (Mandarin) required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management. Fluency in English, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.

    Math Ability: Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in programming and proficiency in basic SQL are required. A working knowledge of statistics and statistical packages. Research experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and/or genetics is desirable. Research experience with plants and with high throughput biological data. This position requires a self-motivated individual who works well in a team environment, possesses strong computer skills, and good problem solving skills.
