Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to become part of the Molecular Breeding Technology Genotyping Production team based in Woodland, CA.  This individual will apply molecular marker technology for the production of genotypic data for marker assisted breeding. 

 

Responsibilities include:

- Operation of state-of-the-art robotic equipment for PCR reaction assembly, DNA extraction, and sample handling;

- Processing of PCR products through fluorescence detection platforms or gel-based detection methods;

- Delivering high quality genotyping data;

- Working with and guiding contract employees;

- Interacting with IT, technology development, and process development teams to ensure timely automated system error resolution;

- Working independently to troubleshoot processes and procedures, yet be able to work in a matrix organization in order to implement needed changes;

- Communicating consistently with the team in order to achieve a high level of production continuity.

- Working with other Molecular Breeding Technology teams to drive implementation of new technology and methods in order to meet the genotyping production demands. 



Required Skills/Experience:

• BS in the Biological or Chemical Sciences and 1+ year of research experience in a molecular biology laboratory or similar environment.

• Outstanding organizational skills.

• Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.

• Proven ability to multitask in a laboratory environment in order to deliver high quality data with exceptional regard to timeliness.

• Proven ability to work independently with little supervision.

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

 

Desired Skills/Experience:

• 1+ years experience in a high throughput genotyping lab setting.

• Expertise with integrated automation systems liquid handling.

• Experience in utilization of lab information management systems (LIMS) as an end user.

• Individuals with degrees in a scientific discipline with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience with laboratory robotics and automation are strongly encouraged to apply.
