Monsanto is seeking a highly talented scientist to join a collaborative team of computational and molecular biologists who apply cutting-edge tools to advance our understanding of how gene expression is regulated in plants. The successful candidate will be able to leverage a strong molecular biology background to design, execute and analyze innovative experiments that contribute to our ability to deliver gene expression with the desired spatial, temporal and strength profile. A track record of high-quality research and a deep knowledge of the literature surrounding genome regulation are essential. This position will also require vector construction, transcript profiling, epigenetic analysis and familiarity with bioinformatic tools.

Responsibilities:

• Apply state-of-the-art scientific principles and theories to drive forward research and development programs.

• Manage the design, execution, analysis, and summarization of research experiments.

• Contribute to scientific journals and give internal/external presentations.

• Make sound decisions based on analyzed data to support recommendations for down-stream development decisions.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Minimum MS Degree with 3+ years of experience, or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Plant Science or related field of study.

• Expertise in standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, manipulation, and characterization, gene cloning and expression, nucleic acid hybridization and PCR techniques, protein quantification, etc.

• Proven track record of high-quality research is required.

• Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.

Desired Skills/Experience:

-Post doctoral experience focused on plant genetics, biology, or related field.

-Experience in gene expression design and promoter engineering

-Experience using next-generation sequencing, transcript profiling, qPCR, and reporter genes to assay gene expression. Working knowledge of fluorescence microscopy is a plus.

-Hand-on experience with library construction.

-Familiarity with principals and techniques to study epigenetic gene regulation.

-Track record of innovation and experience working in a highly collaborative scientific environment.
