Job Description

The Applied Genetics Manager will lead teams at mainland and contra-season seed production facilities in Ames Iowa and Kekaha Hawaii, to design, manage, and execute regulated and non-regulated seed production, seed processing/conditioning, and field trial preparations to support event screening efforts in maize, rice, soy, sunflower, and canola trait projects.

Responsibilities include long-term seed production planning in coordination with crop Development and Regulatory Managers in the U.S. and Europe, budget development in both Ames and Kekaha, and performance and career planning for a team of managers and associates. Maintaining compliance with corporate and government (USDA) policies is a priority objective.

Qualifications
Required:

- PhD Degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, Genetics, Crop Protection, Biological Sciences, + 2 years experience -OR- M.S. Degree + 7 years
-OR
- B.S. Degree with greater than 10 years experience field research/breeding experience with at least 2 of those years being in a supervisory role. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with regulated (GMO) material for at least one of the company's core crops.
- Demonstrated expertise with MS Office and e-mail applications
- Experience using seed research and or inventory data bases

Desired:
- Experience managing regulated small plot nursery seed production on the US Mainland and Hawaii or Puerto Rico for at least two of the following crops: corn, rice, soybean, canola, or sunflower.
- Experience with use of molecular markers for selection and quality control.
- Experience managing or supervising a team of crop breeding/production professionals
