Job Description:
Thank you for your interest in career opportunities with Seminis. At Seminis, a division of Monsanto, we are committed to recruiting and retaining the best individuals through our team-oriented culture that encourages creativity, decision-making, and entrepreneurial spirit. Seminis is the largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds in the world. We lead the development of hybrids that improve nutrition, boost crop yields, limit spoilage and reduce the need of chemicals. Research is the heart of Seminis and its future as we are committed to consistently introducing innovative products for our customers. It's amazing to consider that improving human health, promoting environmental stewardship and fostering greater economic growth for the agricultural community can all start with something as small as a seed. The individual in this role will provide technical support to the Monsanto Vegetable Research (Breeding) organization for screening early-stage materials and making advancement recommendations. The trials program will include a range of vegetable species appropriate for the area. This role will report through the Vegetable R&D or Technology Development functions, depending on local circumstances and support, and will be a collaborative effort with the local Technology Development Rep.

Responsibilities
Germplasm Screening:

  • Work with breeders to plan and execute a program of field trials focused on screening early-stage germplasm
  • Evaluate agronomic, quality, and disease resistance traits of experimental varieties/hybrids versus Seminis and competitive commercial standards
  • Generate and analyze data to drive product advancement recommendations
  • Gain proficiency in Research and Technology Development data collection hardware and software
  • Contract and coordinate testing with Seminis Research stations and private grower/cooperators
  • Ensure product stewardship according to Seminis and industry best practices, and regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements

    Development of New Products:
  • Bridge Research and Sales to ensure market-driven assessment of new products and technologies
  • Work with local Technology Development Rep to establish trials designed to demonstrate the features, advantages, and benefits of near-commercial products
  • Support Sales on performance inquiries that require specific agronomic and product knowledge

    Required Skills:
  • M.S. in horticulture, agronomy, plant breeding, plant pathology, or closely-related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in applied field research
  • Experience with crops commercially relevant to the area desirable
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment
  • Must be self-motivated and assertive with a results orientation
  • Proficient with standard IT tools
  • Willingness to travel extensively within designated area; occasional regional and national travel
  • Long-term willingness to re-locate is highly desired
